There's no "X" Like HOMEX!!

We shot a 30 second and 60 second Homex commercial for TV and the web last month. This is the 30 second version of the commercial starring our regular celebrity Cynthia Popper. Homex provides pre-paid scheduled home maintenance. It is a great product for new home owners and people that just don't have the time to perform routine maintenance themselves. We shot the commercial at the beautiful home of the president of Homex, Joseph Barghouthi. Because we shot in the clients home and didn't have to rent a studio, we were able to keep the cost of this commercial under $5K.

For production, we shot on a Panasonic HVX 200a, using a Zeiss 35 MM lens which gives it that nice soft film like look. It was shot at 720P and we edited on Final Cut Pro 6.0

The shoot went so well, and Joseph was so accommodating that Evolve Media ended up shooting the FedMod commercial there a couple of weeks later.

Hip Logic Phone Demo

This was a fast and furious shoot. We were hired by Hip Logic on Monday, shot the video at their offices on Wednesday, and had the video ready for their unveiling in Boston by the next Monday. The idea was to imitate the iPhone commercials, but give it a little more power. As you will see, Hip Logic has created a new software that turns normal phones into iPhone type devices. We look forward to working with Hip Logic on other commercials. We also can't wait to see how the market responds to their new phone software.

Bizam Consumer Services

Bizam Intro Script from Evolve Media Production on Vimeo.

This was a great shoot that we did for Bizam Consumer Services. We shot this video at a small studio that we rented for the day in the Dogpatch area of the city. It was a low budget shoot that required us to really stretch our clients dollars for the video. We hired a great spokesmodel, Cynthia Popper, make up artist Make up Marc.

Here are some photos from the day in the studio.

Arigo Records Release Party, Jazz Mafia

For this one, we were hired by David Poole at Arigo Recordings to film their album release party for Simone Taylor. It was a great event with great talent and we were happy to be a part of it.

This is a great example of one of Evolve Media Production's live concert shoots. In addition to live concert shoots, we have had the opportunity to work on some great music videos that have been on MTV2 and FUSE. Maybe you will see one of the videos that we have done for Simone or Jazz Mafia on TV soon.

Bright Source Interviews

Corporate Interviews for Bright Source, A video production in San Francisco from Evolve Media Production on Vimeo.

It is great to have an international presence, and recently Evolve Media had that opportunity thanks to the Internet and Google. We were hired by a company out of New York called Made In Film Land to shoot a series of interviews for a huge solar energy company named Bright Source. Made in Film Land found us on Google and hired us for two days to shoot a series of interviews in the San Francisco Bay Area.

For the video, we got the chance to interview some fairly high powered people in the energy business. We spoke with the following Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, Chairman, California Energy Commission, Michael R. Peevey, President, California Public Utilities Commission, Alan Salzman, CEO and Managing Partner, VantagePoint Venture Partners, Jeffrey R. Holzschuh Vice Chairman, Morgan Stanley, and Peter A. Darbee, President, PG&E Corporation.

What to Wear on Camera

TELEVISION & VIDEOTAPE TIPS

  • Gestures should be smaller.

  • Make sure clothing is "broken in" and comfortable when you are sitting and standing.

  • Prior to your performance, have instant photos or video taken of you while sitting and standing. Make sure your clothes look good in both positions.

  • Find out the background color of the set if possible. You don't want your clothing to blend in and make you invisible.

  • Ask the producer for wardrobe color suggestions.

  • Do not wear any clothing with tight patterns or pin stripes. This causes an optical illusion called a moiré pattern which makes you look bad.

  • Avoid clothing with large patterns or geometric shapes. The audience will watch your clothes instead of you.

  • Avoid wearing black, white, or red on television or video. Even the best of cameras have trouble with these colors.

  • Avoid flashy jewelry. It reflects light.

  • Avoid jangly jewelry. It reflects light and makes noise that will be picked up by your microphone (this applies whether you are on TV or not).

  • Wear your eyeglasses if you want, but avoid shiny frames.

  • Tip the bows of your eyeglasses up slightly off your ears. This angles the lenses down to reduce glare from lights.

  • Wear makeup. It has the practical purpose of reducing the glare of TV lights.

  • Apply it to all exposed body parts, like backs of hands, arms, neck, etc. Apply cover-up below eyes to mask bags and/or wrinkles.

  • Good studios are kept cool to negate the effect of the hot TV lights. You may freeze for a while until the lights are turned on, then you may burn up. Dress for the heat, but bring a jacket or extra cover-up to be used while you are waiting to go on.

  • Bring a handkerchief or tissues to dab perspiration during breaks.

  • Don't second guess the camera. Act as if you are always on screen.

  • Make sure your makeup, wardrobe, and hair are consistent with your message.

MEN

  • Wear knee-length socks.

  • Always keep double breasted jackets buttoned.

  • Single breasted jackets can be opened, but not too wide.

  • I SAY AGAIN Wear Makeup. TV lights can penetrate several layers of skin. You can't possibly shave close enough to prevent whiskers from showing without makeup.

  • Don't forget makeup on receding hairlines or bald heads.

Trick: Run the thin part of your tie through the loop in the back of the main part of your tie then clip the thin part to your shirt below the loop. This will keep your tie perfectly centered without the tie clip showing.

WOMEN

  • Don't wear vivid red lipstick or lip gloss. Stick to softer tones and dab lips with a little powder.

  • Consider dress shields if you perspire easily.

  • Make sure your hair will stay where you want it. You don't want to be fooling with it while on the air.

  • Make sure a lavaliere or lapel microphone and transmitter can be attached to your clothing.

Evolve Media References for Video Production San Francisco

Here is a list of testimonials from some of Evolve Media Production's references. Please contact us if you would like to obtain contact information and talk to any of our references.

Evolve Media Production

Alicia Schaeffer - President - The Peanut Shell - http://www.thepeanutshell.com
"W
e hired Evolve to do an instructional DVD for our company. We were nervous in picking a company to work with since we had a negative past experience with a different production studio. We also had some specific needs that we were not sure they would be able to capture.

From the first day working with Tommy and gang we knew that we made the right choice. Our video is amazing, edited perfectly and they make the process seamless.

They are SO professional and can execute to the exact point your brand and desired outcome.

We will for sure use them for all our media needs."
(02/23/2008)

Mark Bagdasarian - President - Clear Bumper - http://www.clearbumper.com
"I have a website http:www.clearbumper.com and I wanted a video on it that will show why you need product ... I shopped around for pricing ect and was shocked at all the different pricing and all the bull that everyone threw at me explaining why they are so expensive. Tommy on the other hand didnt do that at all. He shoots from the hip and produced exactly what I wanted and worked with the budget I had set aside for this project.

If anyone wants someone who will listen to what you have in your mind and produce it the way you want. Well then Tommy is the guy.

Oh and what was even better is after the video was done I still wanted to add a few things and in the past dealing with people like him they get uptight and tell me that they will have to charge for the additional work.. NOT WITH EVOLVE... they did it without even trippin.. all he said was.. "is there anything else you need me to do Mark? that in itself shows he/they are top notch..." (05/10/2008)

Avra Organic Spa - http://www.avraorganicspa.com
"We hired Tommy to rework some old materials from shows we were featured in into one streaming PR piece. Wow! I was extremely impressed. The completed work was much better than I expected. And they were FAST - which saved me a LOT of money!!! I thought there was going to be a lot of back and forth, etc. but Tommy was so professional, he knew exactly what he was doing, and it was great working with him!" (06/03/2008)

They showed up on time, kept to our budget and schedule, and created a professional video we are proud to send to prospective students and staff, as well as post on the front page of our website. We will definitely choose Evolve for future projects." (05/15/2008)

    Editing Web Video Online

Some people would be surprised that you can edit photos online without locally installed software, but surely video editing is too resource-intensive to be done over the web, right? Wrong! We review five online services that let you do things like scene transitions, cuts, splices, loops, audio overlays—and they're all free. We tested the following:

None of these free services is going to put installed video editors like Pinnacle Studio or the $800 Adobe Premier out of business. If you're willing to spend about $50, you can go with Pinnacle Studio or Ulead VideoStudio. But these free online services offer a way for regular Joes to have fun manipulating their multimedia digital content and also give them an easy way to share them with friends and the world at large.

Web Video Production and our new Clickable Player

As the web changes the way that we view and interact with video, Evolve Media Production strives to stay ahead of the curve. Recently we developed video players for our clients that are click-able. What happens is that when a video is finished playing, we create a call to action.

As users watch the videos that we produce, we want them to be compelled to delve deeper into your website to learn more about your product and service. Our new Click-Able players give us that capability. Check out the Clear Bumper call to action to purchase their product. There is a whole process that involves the user and compels them to dig deeper and eventually purchase.

    Samples are:

    The Camera DVX 100B

We use a variety of cameras and shoot on a variety of media, but one of our favorite cameras is the Panasonic DVX100b for standard definition shoots. Panasonic was one of the first companies on the scent to provide a 24p digital camera. What does that mean? Let me explain.

In video technology, 24p refers to a video format that operates at a true 24 frames per second (or typically, 23.976frame/s when using equipment based around NTSC frame rates) frame rate with progressive scanning (not interlaced). Originally, 24p was used in the non-linear editing of film-originated material. Today, 24p formats are being increasingly used for aesthetic reasons in image acquisition, delivering film-like motion characteristics. Some vendors advertise 24p products as a cheaper alternative to film acquisition.

When working entirely within the digital non-linear domain, 24p material is as easily handled as material at any other frame rate. However, 24p material requires care when it is processed using equipment designed for standard video frame rates.

There are two common workflows for processing 24p material using video equipment, one using PAL frame rates, and the other using NTSC frame rates. Of these two, the PAL route is the simpler, but each has its own complications.

    Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p

In short, the Panasonic DVX100b is the most film like and professional of the prosumer, standard definition cameras on the market.
