Editing Web Video Online

Some people would be surprised that you can edit photos online without locally installed software, but surely video editing is too resource-intensive to be done over the web, right? Wrong! We review five online services that let you do things like scene transitions, cuts, splices, loops, audio overlays—and they're all free. We tested the following:

None of these free services is going to put installed video editors like Pinnacle Studio or the $800 Adobe Premier out of business. If you're willing to spend about $50, you can go with Pinnacle Studio or Ulead VideoStudio. But these free online services offer a way for regular Joes to have fun manipulating their multimedia digital content and also give them an easy way to share them with friends and the world at large.

Web Video Production and our new Clickable Player

As the web changes the way that we view and interact with video, Evolve Media Production strives to stay ahead of the curve. Recently we developed video players for our clients that are click-able. What happens is that when a video is finished playing, we create a call to action.

As users watch the videos that we produce, we want them to be compelled to delve deeper into your website to learn more about your product and service. Our new Click-Able players give us that capability. Check out the Clear Bumper call to action to purchase their product. There is a whole process that involves the user and compels them to dig deeper and eventually purchase.

Samples are:

Be sure to watch them all the way to the end to see how they work!!

The Camera DVX 100B

We use a variety of cameras and shoot on a variety of media, but one of our favorite cameras is the Panasonic DVX100b for standard definition shoots. Panasonic was one of the first companies on the scent to provide a 24p digital camera. What does that mean? Let me explain.

In video technology, 24p refers to a video format that operates at a true 24 frames per second (or typically, 23.976frame/s when using equipment based around NTSC frame rates) frame rate with progressive scanning (not interlaced). Originally, 24p was used in the non-linear editing of film-originated material. Today, 24p formats are being increasingly used for aesthetic reasons in image acquisition, delivering film-like motion characteristics. Some vendors advertise 24p products as a cheaper alternative to film acquisition.

When working entirely within the digital non-linear domain, 24p material is as easily handled as material at any other frame rate. However, 24p material requires care when it is processed using equipment designed for standard video frame rates.

There are two common workflows for processing 24p material using video equipment, one using PAL frame rates, and the other using NTSC frame rates. Of these two, the PAL route is the simpler, but each has its own complications.

In short, the Panasonic DVX100b is the most film like and professional of the prosumer, standard definition cameras on the market.
